Marvel 14 piece sketch card puzzle

Sometimes, you have a crazy busy couple of years and your pile of AP cards from misc. sketch card sets tend to pile up because you never have a minute free to actually draw them.

Then, one weekend while you are packing up your house to move, you are going to get antsy and put all of those cards together in the form of a puzzle... just to prove you can. (Also, because this was a HELL OF A LOT OF FUN TO DRAW AND COLOR).

to tell you the truth, I have been burnt out on sketch cards... they weren't FUN anymore because I'd done so many of them. Challenges like this make those little suckers fun to draw again and I went on a card drawing spree for 72 hours. It was the most I've done in a while and it felt great to be back in the saddle. I'm energized and ready to finish off a pile of overdue commissions that lots of patient people have been waiting on (thank you!). 

And before you ask, no, it's not for sale. Sorry! 

cursed pirate girl pin-up

As most people who follow me know, I am a BIG fan of Jeremy Bastian (http://jeremybastian.blogspot.com) and his comic "Cursed Pirate Girl" (http://www.archaia.com/archaia-titles/cursed-pirate-girl/)

I was thrilled when Jeremy asked me to create a pin-up for the gallery in the back of the book. He had a really amazing idea for it called "The Royal Portraiturist". He has some of his characters desribe what THEY have heard of the cursed pirate girl and other artists did a piece based on that quote! I got "She's beautiful... like an angel"

arists like David Petersen, Mike Mignola, Tony Diterlizzi and more contributed to the gallery... so I'm floored this is among all the beautiful work in the book.

(it's copic multiliner pens and copic marker on 11x14 bristol board.... for those wondering)

I wanted to whip this up as a big "thank you" to everyone that picked up the My Little Pony comic from IDW today. 100,000+ orders strong, this is the biggest project I've ever gotten the chance to work on.... and so far I am humbled by the overwhelming positive response. 

 

Also, I wanted to remind everypony that I can still draw... not just write.

One of my favorite places, Challengers Comics and Conversation (http://www.challengerscomics.com) is having an entire gallery show based around everyone's favorite thing that I do... my mini paintings! Teeny watercolor paintings of heroes, animals, food... whatever strikes my fancy! 

There will be hundreds and hundreds of mini paintings up for sale, a HUGE exclusive print, my regular ol' prints, books and more! I also plan to be doing some paintings while I'm there. :) I can also sign copies of "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic" from IDW.

MLP #1 Launch Party in Anaheim, CA

 

My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic #1 from IDW is out in just a few weeks…. 

 

Andy Price and I will BOTH be at Beach Ball comics in Anaheim, CA on December 1st! The store is throwing a launch party for the first book and Andy and I will BOTH be there to sign books, do sketches, talk ponies… whatever!

This book has already sold OVER 90,000 copies... Making it one of the best-selling comics right now. Andy and I (and our editor, Bobby!) have put a LOT of love into this first 4 issue story arc. We really can't wait for you to read it.

Cincinnati ComiCon Kickstarter

My friends Kara and Tony Moore are putting their best comic-foot forward and starting a NEW comic convention in Cincinnati! There's stuff in Ohio... who knew, right?

I did a quick variant cover for My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic #1! 

(I did three interlocking covers for issue 2... but for issue 1, I only did this piece. Be thankful, there's so many variants for issue 1 that even I can't keep track of them all!)

 

I wanted to do something simple, fun and related to the story (it's a known fact now that the Changeling Queen, Queen Chrysalis, is the main baddy in my 4 issue story arc). 

 

It's funny… because I really wanted to use Derpy (can I officially call her that? I don't know…. but I LOVE the name and I think she's the cutest widdle pony there is… I love her crossed-eyes. She's charming as all heck) I originally put Rarity in the chrysalis, but then I threw in Dr. Whooves/Time Turner because I like to make fun of Dr. Who and I figured she'd be a TERRIBLE companion.... turns out everyone else already had that idea! HA! Bronies 1, Katie 0.
