some random mini paintings

As many of you know, I do $5 mini watercolor paintings on demand at my convention appearances. I snapped some photos of a few random ones! I do so many of these, it's hard to keep track of them... but they're fun to paint and I love seeing people walk away with one that they are really happy with.

I've been to 12 or so conventions this year... all of these 6" x 6" watercolors were completed at one of them. sorry they are just pictures from my phone... I usually don't get a chance to scan things before I hand them over to the person who bought them! 

 

 

My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic #1 hits over 90,000 pre-orders

the comic isn't even out yet and there have been over 90,000 pre-orders for the book. 

i guess that makes me "best selling writer katie cook". 

 

for those that don't know, those numbers are staggering for an all-ages comic... and really staggering for a license that has a "just for little girls" stigma behind it. 

rest assured that i did NOT treat it like a "just for little girls" license. it still fits in with the charm and appeal of the new show... a fantasy story about friendship and adventure (that just happens to have ponies in the starring roles).

 

...go figure. i'm on a book that's on the top of the sales charts and  i'm not even the one drawing it! ;)

 

but andy price and i are really excited for everyone to read the book when it comes out next month.

It is with a heavy heart that I post this

 

Something I only mentioned on Facebook last week… I kept it off twitter because I did not want NYCC to turn into 4 constant days of "I'm so sorry, Katie" (I was trying to work to keep my mind off things, it helped to stay busy and focused on other things). 

 

Last Tuesday, October 9th, my twin sister… Kari Cook, passed away.

 

Kari and I have not always had the best relationship… but I had always hoped that, in time, things would get better between us. I don't have that chance any more. For that, I will always regret the years that we didn't get along. 

 

 For those that knew Kari, I wanted to share the details of where you could come to pay your respects. 

 

The services will take place at Crane Funeral Home in Romulus, MI. (36885 Goddard Rd.)

 

There is a viewing Tuesday October 23rd from 3-8pm. 

There is a service and memorial on Wednesday October 24th at 11am. This is going to be followed by a luncheon at the VFW hall.

how to be a giant jerk to people who hate spiders... a tutorial by katie

Okay… now for something completely different. 

A while back, I posted this little prank on twitter and I've had several folks ask me about it since. I decided to post it once here and get it over with so no one will ever ask me about it again. 

 

I HATE spiders. Tiny ones, I can manage… but put a spider any bigger than a dime in front of me and I will shriek like an idiot. For some reason, this means my brain came up with the WORST POSSIBLE THING someone could do to me… likely, I suspect, so I can be on the constant look-out for it. 

 

Anyway, if you do this in your home, I bet your significant other will break up with you (fair warning).
